Karen
Postal Worker

My sister Karen who is a postal worker for Royal Mail. She's getting up in the early hours of the morning to sort the mail in their busy depot, then does her postal rounds too all the houses, shops, businesses etc. She's helping people on her rounds as much as she can too. She's being doing this all through the pandemic and her hands are so sore from constant hand washing and sanitizing (with high alcohol content which dry hands out so badly) due to her having to handle the high level of the mail and parcels being handled by so many people in the depots, sanitizing all the things that she touches due to the high level of mail that she is handling daily and wanting to keep her customers and our family as safe as possible. The thing is she's been amazing to our family as my parents are elderly and I'm bedbound with a chronic illness that leaves us in the extremely vulnerable category so nobody can leave the house to get to get food due to needing to self-isolate from the early stages of lockdown. She's gotten up early on Sundays which is her only day that she doesn't have to normally be up at the crack of dawn, to go to the supermarket for us as I need certain foods due to my illness and very limited dietary and they were so hard to get. She queued as soon as the supermarket opened and did our food shopping as well as tended any other of our needs, She's been amazing and we couldn't have managed without her. We'd have been very stuck otherwise. Kind regards Lisa

When it snows, Joy is the first in the academy, checking that everything is ok. However, during the current crisis, Joy has been incredible and we could not have functioned without her. In the last 2 months, Joy has phoned hundreds of parents, staff and children, organised the distribution of free school meals to 300 families, done welfare calls, put herself at risk by visiting homes to deliver work packs, photocopied, supported upset children, supported frustrated parents - oh, and she's done her own job as well! #KeyToOurCountry

Bernie Sandford Nurse

Huge happy birthday, happy anniversary and happy retirement to Bernie today. The below is a post from her Son, Connor Sandford: I do not post on here ever or on any other social media but I am so immensely proud of her I had to share. She has been a nurse for 35 years now and has always been the kind of person that will put absolutely anyone not matter who they are before herself and has always cared with a smile. I firmly believe some people are just born to be carers and my mum is one of those. My mum has suffered from a number of physical problems that has made working on the wards impossible her entire career. She has had countless problems and has undergone so many operations I have lost count. Often even when doing less physically demanding nursing she would often come home from work when I was younger in so much pain that she could not walk and would even need to use walking sticks etc to allow her to be able to move. Still she would not complain but would always smile. When the time was needed for her to go back to working on the wards she was right there was lots of other incredible people, putting aside her pain. I am so proud.

Karen Postal Worker

She has worked almost every day, including the Easter holiday, and will inevitably come to the end of the year not having taken her full annual leave.
